Watched YouTube copy of Queen of Blood that wasn't too shabby, more than four pixels stretched across the screen.
Hauntology, made when Gemini was still current (i.e. pre-Apollo, no human had yet left Earth orbit), it's set in the distant future of 1990.
The sets are charming, you can see the aluminium foil stretched over the cardboard, but it somehow works, as if the cover of Les Baxter's Space Escapade came to life. Some beautiful practical/optical effects, very atmospheric, not at all convincing, but you couldn't reproduce them today even if you tried, they derive from people with highly developed skills, and an environment of buildings/machines/workshops that no longer exist.
The story, hmmm, a lot of build up for not so much reward. Unintentionally (I think, hard to tell at this distant remove?) funny, but I respect it. The director suggests that Alien (1979) was partially inspired by it — could well be? Certain shots could be overlaid with shots from Alien for sure.
I am glad to have seen it, the creativity and the art of some of the sequences. The silver screen, you could potentially put anything on there, any colour, any movement, good to see deviations from the norm.
