MRT-3 now takes GCash and QR Ph for tickets, great news! But wouldn’t it be better if we could just tap our phones using NFC to pay and reload? #GCash #MRT3 #beepCard #QRPH

MRT-3 Now Accepts GCash and QR Ph, But There's Still Room to Improve

MRT-3 now accepts GCash and QR Ph for ticket payments. A good start, but NFC-enabled mobile phone payments would be faster and more convenient.

Well, my usual* wallet does have enough cash, fortunately. 😁

It's just weird because I normally use my #creditcard for any place that will take card payments, and I don't carry much #cash. I don't feel safe making trips to the #ATM. The less I use those machines, the better and safer, me thinks. So I like to save my cash for places where they don't have other payment options.

#Google / #Apple Pay is not a thing here. We have #GrabPay #Maya #Gcash #ShopeePay.

@youronlyone

GXI is now a mere subsidiary of the Mynt brand (aka Globe Fintech Innovations, Inc), which seems to be the holding company for #fintech by Ayala Corp.?

Isn't Gcash still the preferred #ewallet for most people/merchants in the #philippines ?

I don't know, since I don't have one, and have always used BPI to pay/transfer to Gcash #ewallets

The #QRPH improved cross-wallet accessibility, but it's still annoying to encounter merchants not familiar with it.

Yeah. I tried it one time at a small coffee shop. The #QR sign at the cashier had the #QRph logo in the center of the #QRcode, but the sign was branded #Gcash.

👩 "Can I pay with #Maya?"
(pointing at the QR PH logo)

🤷‍♂️ "No, not really. Maybe it'll work as a transfer*."

I tried and it was indeed treated as a transfer, with a 15-peso fee. I cancelled the transaction.

And that is why it's still good to keep some cash handy. ☝️😄

I just found out that the new BPI app no longer support #gcash fund transfers below 300 bucks.

I've never had a #Gcash account, and the only way I got around doing #microtransactions with folks using that wallet is via the old BPI app, where I can simply transfer to the recipient's number.

I ended up paying cash, but I'd love to know if there are alternatives other than signing up for gcash.

Many small vendors still don't use #QRPH codes, and (annoyingly) rely on giving out phone numbers.

After a few weeks of testing, I conclude that the #Vybe #eWallet from BPI still has ways to go before it can replace whatever e-wallet app you're using.

I like the idea of a single wallet that works with #QRph codes -- without paying fees (then earn points), but it's too finicky with #QRph codes and will insist they aren't valid

#SeaBank 's app can quickly, and reliably recognize QRph codes. Also free.

It's just annoying that it requires me to take off my mask, to face-verify occasionally.

@evelyn Like I wrote earlier, it depends. There are a few who don't charge anything for cross-wallet/bank transfers, while everyone seems to offer internal transfers (i.e. same wallet/bank) for free.

For cross-transfer fees, see this previous toot https://social.tchncs.de/@gowin/109662036901616144

These days, if you see a QR payment code sporting the #QRph logo, that means it's inter-operable, and should work with any #eWallet or banking app that supports payments via QR codes.

@gowin
Is there an extra charge to paying with #QRph or is it the same as paying via an #eWallet's own QR code?
#GrabPay #Maya #ShopeePay #Gcash
@evelyn Basically, the BSP mandated all banks and #ewallet service providers to inter-operate with each other by using a common #QRph standard, piggybacking on #PesoNet and #InstaPay. In theory, consumers no longer need not maintain different apps or #eWallets to transfer funds to each other, but in reality, some consumers find the transaction fees a turn-off, especially if they do a lot of inter-wallet transactions.

@gowin
I actually don't understand how the #QRph thing works. Never tried it.

It's weird -- folks approaching random strangers. Gotta be careful. ☝️

I think if I need help I'd try an office or store, not random strangers or passersby. 🤔 Something worth planning for. Things do* happen. 🤷‍♀️ I'd say I'll be back on this or that day and pay them back, and I'll leave my phone number. That'll work, now that we got #SIMcardRegistration. Maybe an ID too, if necessary.
