‘Can you imagine a female politician surviving a story arc in which she commences a relationship with a staff member and leaves her husband who has raised their kids and fibs about it to colleagues and then blows up her government with her resignation and then later passes out in the street, which is captured on video, and now quits the party that's sponsored her into parliament?’
I often find commentary from Annabel Crabb to be arch & flippant. This time she’s spot on.
These are the unwritten rules: a woman who is not perfect in every domain of her existence has no place in public life. A man who forks up is just ‘boys being boys’. Exemplified in Gillard / Abbott, or Clinton / Voldemort. Too many to name.
The narrative runs bc it gets clicks. Can’t we grow the fork up now?
