Despite the good news, Australian scientists express concern about the lack of investment in the biological control of rabbit and feral cat populations.

Characteristics of the Ampurta and Its History
The ampurtas, a marsupial the size of a sugar glider with a sandy-brown or blond color, is easily recognizable for its short, fat tail, which ends with a black crest. This micro-predator, once abundant in the arid and sandy landscapes of Central and Western Australia, was classified as a threatened species in 1994.
The decline in ampurtas (Dasycercus hillieri) populations was caused by human action. Between the 1930s and 1960s, the expansion of colonists triggered a series of declines and extinctions of Australia’s Central fauna.
