Yes, there will also be singing. About the dark times “ Bertolt Brecht

…Exhilarating, terrifying and propulsive, a devastating vision of a country falling apart, and a moving portrait of the resilience of the human spirit faced with the darkest of times.

Started and finished #ProphetSong on a couple of flights on Sunday. I haven't reacted so strongly to a book like that in quite a while. I had to stop reading a few times, it's tough in places.

But as a warning of how it could happen, how Ireland could slip, and the rise of the far right, it was quite chilling, told amongst the mundanity of kids' lunches and baked goods.I still don't know if I liked it. I don't think liking is the right word. But I can't stop thinking about it either.

"Prophet Song" by Paul Lynch is a powerful and harrowing tale that feels like is etched on the inside of my skill. It tells of the aftermath of the election of a fascist government in a fictional Republic of Ireland. You won't be able to put it down. I wouldn't necessarily recommend reading it though (it won't leave you unchanged), unless you live in the USA, in which case: better to know. #Books #USA #ProphetSong

My Review of #ProphetSong by Paul Lynch.
"In the context of a fascist state, the novel explores themes such as #parenthood, professionalism, ageing, bureaucracy, and marriage. But of all of Prophet Song’s themes, a defining one is power—specifically, the power a capitalist state can have over working-class people"

Lynch's suffocating prose captures the experience of civilians who wait too long, denying a democracy's fall.
