The #HouseAgricultureCommittee is considering GT Thompson's draft #FarmBill that includes a provision that would systematically unravel laws like California’s #Prop12 and Massachusetts’ Question 3, which were landslide election wins. These laws ban the sale of eggs, pork, and veal from farms that keep animals in crates. Laws like these protect pregnant pigs, for example, from confinement in cages so small they can’t even turn around.

URGENT: Oppose Farm Bill language that would threaten laws protecting animals & people

Send a message to your legislators today to let them know that you strongly OPPOSE Title XII, Section 12007 or any other Farm Bill language that would undermine legal protections for animals.

#SCOTUS upheld #California #Prop12 "that partially bans the sale of #pork from farms that keep pregnant breeding pigs [in] tiny enclosures called gestation crates. [But] how will U.S.'s strongest farm #animalwelfare law actually be enforced? ...200 million #animals are still stuffed into cages and crates [in US farms].. It’s torture, but it’s perfectly legal torture in most states [and] it’s still the dominant method of production for pork and #eggs." #animalrights

How California’s cage-free eggs and bacon law, Proposition 12, will be enforced

California has the country’s strongest farm animal welfare law. Now it just needs to be enforced.

I am amazed that "animal people" are excited about the Supreme Court decision concerning #Prop12. There's an exception that allows pigs to be confined 5 days before birth and throughout nursing, or for veterinary reasons, or for 6 hours per day for 4 days every month for any reason. And Prop 12 sold out egg-laying hens who are allocated 1 sq. foot of space. And this cost millions of dollars. "Animal people" who call this a "victory" are profoundly confused-at best. #Vegan #veganism -- Prof. Gary Francione
We're outside the Supreme Court with PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, where the greedy meat industry has taken a blow after SCOTUS upholds #Prop12, giving mother pigs, hens, and calves a miserly few inches of more space in enclosures.
