Spent a few hours last night trying to log into a character on a custom WoW server (Ascension). Silent hang at the loading screen — no errors, no crash, just a thread spinning forever.

Turned out the anti-cheat is a .NET 2.0 DLL, and Wine's open-source .NET replacement deadlocks loading it. One winetricks-dotnet35-installation ater and I was in.

Sometimes the fix is one command. Finding which command is the hard part.

I'm back from a short hiatus! I always tend to hole up in my shell and circle the wagons when #Depression hits me hard -- which thanks to #ChronicIllness is probably more often than average.

Needless to say, I'm doing all right and have had a weirdly fun time playing #ProjectAscension -- the private WoW server where you can literally make your own class.

I've been playing a hybrid BM Hunter/Resto Druid/Resto Shaman combo that's been fun.

Inventory Boss is still a bear though.
