Eat the Rich (but maybe not me mates x), by Jade Franks

Really wanted to see this show but it’s already sold out.

Still, reassuring to know there are so many people interested in culture that is thinking critically about Oxbridge privilege and how #class plays out in Britain today:

Eat the Rich (but maybe not me mates x) - Soho Theatre

Fresh from a sell-out, five-star debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, Jade Franks’s award-winning solo show is back.

Soho Theatre

It occurred to me today that boycotting individuals or even companies due to a stance they have is a form of privilege.

"Don't {read books|listen to music by|watch films} by [name] because they support [position]." works for many people, but it doesn't work if you're really a persecuted minority.

Imagine being gay in the 1950s in the US and saying you won't consume media or buy from a store if the owner is anti-LGBT, you'd have very little you could eat or buy.

The fact is that this is the position that many of us still face today, and while each of us will draw the line differently, we mustn't forget that being able to do so is an expression of our power and privilege.

A Real Reason Why...

James’s Substack

This is story about White Mediocrity, how Privilege places the worst people at the top and how it degrades us all trying to soothe the raging egos of depraved middle aged men who want teenagers to suck their dicks.

That's all there is to these men, there's no politics really, just spite and rape. And women support these men, fuck knows why, but they do.

Opinion: In My Day, We Earned Our Positions the Traditional Way: Through Dad’s Fraternity

Having trouble breaking into the job market with just your skills and qualifications? That's adorable. When I was young, we earned our positions the old-school way: through time-honored networks of privileged connections.

1/3 In an extract from her foreword to David Graeber’s new collection, The Ultimate Hidden Truth of the World, Rebecca Solnit writes that Graeber:

‘wanted to put [ideas] in everyone’s hands … Which is part of why he worked hard at – and succeeded in – writing in a style that … was always as clear and accessible as possible, given the material. Egalitarianism is a prose style, too. … A sentence Lyndsey Stonebridge wrote about Hannah Arendt could apply equally well to him: “To fixate on her exceptional mind is to miss something that is important about her lessons in thinking: thinking is ordinary, she teaches; that is its secret power.”

Yet isn’t this itself an example of not thinking, and instead of merely going along with received knowledge?
