Anime from 2001 turns 25 this year.

Given the 2000s are my favorite Decade of Anime, we’re entering a period when what turns 25 a given year might start interesting me more the...

I find it interesting how many people seeking to be professional experts on the Magical Girl Warrior Subgenre haven't.

There is a lot I haven't seen, but I'm not monetizing my Blog yet and even if I ever do my objective is not to present myself as an authoritative expert on anything, I'm a jack of all Trades and Master of None.

Still I can understand why even those specializing in this genre would procrastinate on finishing every 40+ episode series.

It's the fact that I keep seeing Pretear mentioned by a Magical Girl YouTuber only to mention how they haven't watched it.

That's first of all a single Cour show, you can breeze through it in an afternoon.

But what makes it essential viewing to the genre to me over even most other single Cour entries are two things.

1. It's a Junichi Sato show, original lead Sailor Moon Director and future Hugtto director. And is the only show he did between those I consider unambiguously part of the Genre. Princess Tutu I do mostly count but with big asterisks attached.

2. It's about the only Magical Girl TV Anime that feels geared towards the older end of the Shoujo Demographic, bordering on Josei even. rather then being a Saturday Morning Kids show.

A lot of others I get the sense were geared older in the Manga but toned down for the Anime where the Studio wanting something sell Toys first and foremost. Especially Sailor Moon beyond it's first Arc.

So often the dichotomy Magical Girl shows are divided (in terms of official target demographic) into is shows for Little GIrls and shows for Older Men. Well Pretear I feel fills in one of the blank corners of that Compass by being for older girls.
