Unrelated, but kind of want to watch #Godzilla Minus One again.

Or, can anyone recommend another great movie about Japan after the war?

> ... Although the previous war.. ended only a few years earlier.. postwar political development had.. turned conservative. Japan participated in the #KoreanWar and played the role of killer again. It was hard for.. intellectuals to accept the “conservative turn of Japan's domestic and international politics” .. During this time, different groups had different opinions on China-related issues. In #Fūbaika, Takeda tries to expose the diverse views on China, war, and human nature in #PostwarJapan.

The Criterion channel is having a Seijun Suzuki showcase and we just just finished watching GATE OF FLESH from 1964 and my mind is blown. The Wikipedia plot description: "In an impoverished and burnt out Tokyo ghetto of post-World War II Japan, a band of prostitutes defend their territory, squatting in a bombed-out building." But that sounds much lighter than the film turns out to be! Highly recommended.

Gate of Flesh - Wikipedia

Point being, if you want to talk about the #cinema of #postwarjapan, hit me up because I've got opinions.

I started to try and teach myself to read Japanese. That was going to take a while though, so my other thought was to try and find movies that showed something of the times. Before events overtook and I had to stop, between 2015 and 2016 I watched 87 movies set in #postwarjapan.

I do hope to continue at some point and reach my goal of watching everything between the end of the war and the opening of the Olympic games in 1964.
