Super leuk, al die reisverhalen op Polarsteps, tot ik me verdiepte in de techniek. Hoewel het een Nederlands bedrijf is, draait alles op Amerikaanse servers: de data staat bij AWS, mail gaat via Google en de DNS via Amazon.

Voor mij een absolute no-go. Ik wil mijn data niet in de VS stallen. Dus: backup maken en het account gaat direct de shredder in. Mijn data blijft voortaan lekker van mij! 🇳🇱🚫🇺🇸

This has always been the most exciting part of my long bike trips.

On my first trips, I used various apps and my bike computer to calculate distances, altitudes, and morphological characteristics of the routes.

I soon discovered that, on my travels, they were useless. I just need a rough route on Polarsteps and then I rely on the people who follow me along the way or who I meet during my journey.
