A jaunty #Jackdaw, posing for a photo in May last year. I see (and hear!) these chatty little #Corvids all the time at nearby Fawsley, but they almost always make themselves scarce when I raise my camera. This one, in a Peak District pub car park, was used to the paparazzi. Love their pale blue eyes!

Photographed at the end of January this year, at Brandon Marsh: a gorgeous Great Tit, most likely a female. I heard the ‘Teacher! Teacher!’ song of this species, and my first drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker of the year. There were some frisky Goosanders on one of the lakes too. It was a good day to be out and experiencing signs of Spring.

The secretive, skulking #Snipe loves to play ‘hide and seek’ and is usually very good at it! I think sometimes though Snipes get a little overconfident in their ability to remain unseen – then they let their guard down a bit and start moving about in places where they are not so well concealed. I photographed this one at Brandon Marsh, Warwickshire, last month.

From one of my outings (which were few and far between) earlier this year: One of a pair of Nuthatches who came to claim their share of the Sunflower seeds at Brandon Marsh. The background colour, complementing the bird’s chest and belly, is provided by a sunlit reedbed in the near distance.

During a visit to RSPB Ham Wall in #Somerset at the beginning of this month, at least two different #Robins seemed to invite my brother @rob_camera and I to join them for lunch. We politely declined, as neither of us are keen on spider sandwiches.

If anyone had told me, back when I started birding, that one day I’d be able to watch Avocets at a place just an hour’s drive from my home in West Northamptonshire, I’m not sure I’d have believed them. Today I took that one hour drive (to RSPB Middleton Lakes near Tamworth in Staffordshire).
