Tonight's Whisk(e)y Wednesday at Julio's Liquors was a 'Gone Wild' with Planteray Rum (fka Plantation) and we tried an amazing lineup. I already owned most of them (indeed, one of the bottles we tried was mine), but I two I didn't have really grabbed me - so I picked them up.
The Mister Fogg Navy Rum was just delicious. It's a blend of rums from Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, and Jamaica bottled at 55.7% ABV, but it does not drink that hot at all. And it's normally just $34.99, which I was surprised by after tasting. On sale tonight, so I couldn't pass it up.
The other one is brand new, not even released in most areas yet, the Sealander. This is a blend of rums from Barbados, Mauritius, and the Fiji Islands, bottled at 40% ABV. That's rums from three different seas, hence the name.
The very first thing I picked up on was amburana casks. They introduce a lovely spice note. This reminded me very strongly of a spiced molasses cookie, which I very much love. This flavor was completely in my wheelhouse and I couldn't pass it up. Especially as it was on sale tonight, and only $42.99 normally.
It may not be to everyone's taste, amburana seems to be something you either like or dislike, but here I felt it was just the right amount of spice notes without overwhelming the palate. Likely because only one of the rums (I think it was Mauritius) used it.
A great tasting with fantastic rums.
