Uranus and Neptune May Conceal Vast Oceans of Water

A scientist simulated the contents of the ice giant worlds, and found that a fluid layer may explain each planet’s strange magnetic field.

The New York Times

Would it be possible to have a planet with a liquid water ocean that is always simmering but doesn't boil away completely?

Or would water vapor from the simmering ocean trigger a runaway greenhouse effect that boiled the ocean away? Would the ocean survive if the ocean was sufficiently big and deep, like on a Hycean world?

Asking if any #planetaryscientist or other #exoplanet #astronomer can tell me if a teakettle #planet is feasible.

Here's my #astrodon #introduction. Mid-career #planetary scientist, several mission participations, now strong focus on complex #dataanalysis ,e.g. #citizenscience preparation and reduction #pipelines . Currently working at Freie Uni Berlin on finding ways to #coregister ALL the #planetarydata using as much but not more #machinelearning as needed. I'm proud husband of another #planetaryscientist and father to son, #puppy and #cat . Love #music #singing #soundproduction and #homeassistant !

I’m still figuring out the mechanics of this place and so am going to take a new stab @ an #introduction post.

I am a #planetaryscientist who leans to the #geophysics / #geodynamics side of things. #MESSENGER mission alum, so big on planet #Mercury science & exploration, though #Venus, #Moon, #Mars#Earth too … really anything solid out there in #space

Lately, focused on deep planetary interiors & how metallic cores operate.

Away from the keyboard mostly just a #soccer dad/former coach.

Hello everyone. I’m Steve, a #planetaryscientist, mostly of the #geophysics variety (but I like to mix things up a lot) at Case Western Reserve University where I am on the faculty.

#ExploreMercury and #MESSENGER mission alum.

Former editor-in-chief of #JGRPlanets.

When not sciencing, teaching etc, mostly a soccer dad.
