I'm not really a friend of being disturbed by notifications. My #Librem5 does only play sounds on SMS. Anyway...

What I've been thinking of especially since there is some work on the linux system of the #Pinephones Modem is if there wouldn't be a way to implement some service into the modem that does work even when the phone is in suspend mode.

This wouldn't solve the quest of having some service providint push notification, but it would solve the problem first that on the Librem5 and the Pinephone push notifications can't be received while the phone is suspended.

Another way to get this without having to hack on the modem would be to run a service that would actually voice call a phone when it's supposed to get a notification to wake it from suspend. This solution could be illegal in some jurisdication, because you signal something by a call that is not intended to be taken (and thereby charged).

After a wake-up from suspend by whatever dedicated method the linux system could do whatever would be good to get information about the event that initiated the wake-up call/[wake on modem data thingy].

From there whatever happens in linux could evolve. At first on the phone side I thought one would wait for the services defined by the user to connect to their servers and exchange informations. But this could also evolve into some protocol where the phone asks at the wake-up service for the reason for the wake-up and just make sure that it acts upon that information.

Maybe I misunderstood the whole situation and the whole problem, but it's nice that you started the discussion about this topic and I'd love to learn more about other ideas.

@linmob

@zachdecook
I heard there were issues getting #SXMO working on UK #Pinephones - is this correct and it only really works on American versions?
@proycon

There is a huge shipment of #Pinephones by @thepine64 expected these days. Hope you all get exited as we are on providing the #software for it!

Use Tor Browser Safely

Tor Browser safe usage depends on leaving small footprints. I go over some basic rules you can apply to maxmize privacy/anonymity. I believe we all have that basic, fundamental Human Right to Privacy....

@TFG @apathetic_bystander About DeltaChat... It might work, just require the client to be built for ARM64 which _should_ be doable (if complicated). Also, there's this project I've been procrastinating to try out since forever (since I am not a delta.chat user currently): https://git.sr.ht/~link2xt/kdeltachat

Also: GPS and convergence should work, but don't work on every distro (and I've been reading about problems with convergence on newer beta edition #PinePhones).

Maybe, someday (hopefully) not so far in the future, the @PINE64 #PinePhones and #PineTime watch will be the perfect match for you. Afaik the KDE Community is working hard on health app integrations for their DE. 😇
[email protected] well that's [email protected] that's the point now, isn't it? The people who opt to by #pinephones and similar devices, aren't keen on Androids, IOS or phones for that matter. Surely, you understand that these people already have various phones and are clearly concerned with freedom, privacy, development and hacking. Why many such people, many of them never actually leave home with any phone in tow

@thunder lack of convenience, of course :) I have tried a lot of options...

#pinephones/#librem-phones are great but both are too big and its camera is no good. Freedom is nice, but I would only support something like this if it was modular with module options available.

Plus, I don't want to use the two apps I need in an emulator, so stuff like ubuntu/lineageOS do not really work for me.

I know, I know, that some members, of the #mobian IRC channel, at OFTC, can't take a joke, or jokes, mostly, because they're such important big shot volunteers, helping us, mere mortals, to get our #pinephones up to snuff. However, now I remember why I considered them to be snobs, in the first place. It's because I've noticed that a majority of them have a [m], just like that, brackets included, next to their nicks. When I pondered why this was so, I realized, that they're not really using the #IRC at all, they're using #matrix, a little too high born for IRC, you know. There are bridges or bots that will link IRC to other types of chat environments, causing seamless communication across protocols, so to speak. I just hope I wont be flamed too much for pointing this out and having fun but flamed I will be. I realize what a serious risk I'm taking in this cancel culture era, for it may well be that I could get banned from their IRC channel, hint, hint. Speaking about pinephones, you who own them, you can do your own experiments, you know. There's hardly any opportunity to brick the device. Especially, when you use SD cards to host the OS. It's important to use your pine phone, in all sorts of ways and learn how to use it. I'll be posting this to my #Gemini capsule, located at gemini://mstdn.design a few minutes hence, since, I and my readers, still know how to laugh at ourselves and take jokes. As always, be well and keep in touch.
