If you're a fan of early culinary history in London, visiting a "pie and mash" shop is quite a fun thing. I've enjoyed a couple. Those places offer an eel pie which is indeed quite tasty, and uniquely of the place.
Those shops didn't arise until maybe 150yrs after Sam's time. A notable one was Henry Blanchard, located in Southwark which opened in 1844. MManze opened in 1892.
