I enjoy following the real-time #SamuelPepys toots.

This one today outlines his feast yesterday in celebration of his being 'cut of the stone' which is 17th c lingo for surgery (without anaesthetic of course 😱) for a kidney stone.

Surviving that was quite a crap shoot. Probably could've used a bit of broccoli 🥦 in there somewhere though.

The lamprey pie is interesting – noted as a most rare item.

If you're a fan of early culinary history in London, visiting a "pie and mash" shop is quite a fun thing. I've enjoyed a couple. Those places offer an eel pie which is indeed quite tasty, and uniquely of the place.

Those shops didn't arise until maybe 150yrs after Sam's time. A notable one was Henry Blanchard, located in Southwark which opened in 1844. MManze opened in 1892.
