If you saw me talking about #PhoenixStation last month a bunch and wondered what happened, today's #thursday #blogpost is for you! The short answer is: it's on hiatus until my life gets stable again, but I'm still working on it and I'll be bringing it back later (perhaps this year!). I don't like having to stop something that I just started, but sometimes life doesn't give you any leeway.

What Happened to Phoenix Station?

Some of you may have noticed that all Phoenix Station content has disappeared. For those of you who don’t know anything about Phoenix Station, it is a serialized, slow-burn mystery set on a s…

We're over a week into #2024, so today's #thursday #blogpost is about my #goals for the following year. I'm not a resolutions kind of person, but I do believe in having goals. Although some events right at the start of 2024 have jumbled up my goals, I've still got some. In short: Writing two novels. Finishing my MFA. Maybe a return to #PhoenixStation, if my life stabilizes. Plus new, shorter blog content.

What I’m Working on in 2024

Well, somehow it’s become January. Did 2023 fly by for everyone, or is it just me? Maybe it was just the last half. I certainly remember the rest of the year dragging. What is time anyway? Th…

It's the first #thursday of the month, so time for a writing prompt roundup #blogpost! Featuring prompts for each day of December from #WordWeavers, #PennedPossibilities, and #WritersCoffeeClub, this post offers a little insight into what I'm like as a #mystery writer and the person behind the writing. Although #PhoenixStation has been put on hiatus, there's still a bit of it here!

Today, we’re looking at the writing prompts I did over on Mastodon for the month of December. These are sneak peaks into the characters and ideas found in my two novel projects and a little o…

Ok, I went ahead and took all the #PhoenixStation posts off my blog. Sad to see them go, but it's a bit out of my hands. They're still in drafts. When my life gets stable enough that I can do it again (likely after I graduate in October), then I will try to bring it back.

By the by, if anyone knows of a place for a mystery writer/game designer (writing focus, but I speak code too), please feel free to let me know. I'm still working at my job, but I'll need more income now.

Something has come up suddenly and it is looking like I won't have the time to dedicate to #PhoenixStation like I thought. I am very frustrated right now, but suddenly find that I may not have a place to live soon, and that is shattering all of my plans that I had for this year.

I'm probably going to take down the posts because it will be very silly to have just two things up and nothing else while I find a paying job and somewhere to live.

Jan 02 #WordWeavers—What scene in your current WIP are you proudest of?

In Facility 108, it's perhaps a scene where Anthony owns up to his own failure. I was really in the character at the moment and it felt raw and emotional and I was surprised what I did through him.

Faceless Justice needs a lot of work, so I'm not proud of anything there yet.

#PhoenixStation doesn't have a lot of writing yet, but I think I'd be nowhere if Kal didn't jump off the page at me in his first journal.

Jan 1 #WordWeavers—What are your writing plans for the coming year?

First accomplishment is finishing a full draft of Facility 108. By the end of February.

Then, much of the year will be working on my thesis novel. And graduating from my MFA.

I also am hoping to produce a couple dozen pieces for #PhoenixStation, alongside my regular blog content.

I *should* have a novelette release later this year (or maybe beginning of next).

And I'm still doing game writing stuff I can't talk about.

Jan 1 #WritersCoffeeClub—What are your writing related New Year Resolution?

Happy New Year everybody! I'm not big on resolutions, but I do have goals. I'll be finishing off two novels this year. One is my thesis novel. The other is a novel I resurrected from the dead as a side project so I could work on something instead of my thesis novel (not procrastinating—I had to stop adding words until my thesis classes started). I'm also hoping to get a good start into #PhoenixStation. It's a busy year!

So, I put all of these things in my stories because I want people to talk about them, see them working, see people discussing them in a positive, yearning way.

But also, sometimes I put things in just for fun or intrigue. I wanted to give a character a little extra something in #PhoenixStation, so I made up an entire movement of colonies surrounded by the idea of free and informed choices. (We'll get around to meeting Fift in the new year.)

Dec 31 #WritersCoffeeClub—Will you be writing today? How do you feel about your writing journey over the last year?

Only if writing a discussion board post for classes counts 😅 Sunday is a school day for me.

I have accomplished so much over this year, and so much of it I can't talk about. That's both awful and wonderful, because I spent so long wanting to be where I am. I've mostly finished one novel. I wrote a novelette (forthcoming). I started #PhoenixStation. It's been a blast!
