Posted on behalf of my great friend https://twitter.com/DEJPett/

In 2013 the #AHRC https://crowdsourced.micropasts.org/ project started, drawing on the power of the crowd to digitise 1000s of index cards in the British Museum on Bronze Age metalwork.

Fast forward a decade and a new website — https://bronze-age-index.micropasts.org/— showcases these materials, and much more.

The mapping interface operates at minimal cost (running Gatsby, Meilisearch, GitHub). It uses #Peripleo, @aboutgeo's magnificent #mapping software, re-developed using Anna Foka's project https://www.periegesis.org (on which I'm working) and a small grant from my university
(@OpenUniversity). It enables you to search by findspot and uses publicly accessible geodata sourced from https://finds.org.uk/.

Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to know more / apply Peripleo to your data.

Today 16:00 GMT. DIY #mapping with #Peripleo at #LinkedPasts

Peripleo is an open-source browser-based tool that enables users to explore #DigitalHumanities and #CulturalHeritage data through the places those collections refer to. This demo will walk you through how you can create maps of your collections — how you can covert your spreadsheet data into #Pelagios #LinkedData standards, create a Peripleo web map, and serve this on #Github Pages.

Peripleo is a is a browser-based map tool developed by Rainer Simon from the Austrian Institute of Technology as part of the AHRC-funded Locating a National Collection project. This activity will provide instruction on how to use Locolligo to transform participants' own data to Pelagios linked data standards, create a Peripleo web map and serve this on Github Pages. To be held at 23 Nov at 4pm and/or 28 Nov at 4pm depending on interest and availability.

SEADDA hosting Linked Pasts VIII – SEADDA

"The purpose was to investigate the history of a #place by using the information provided through #LinkedOpenData #LOD #searchengines and databases. We start with Peripleo, the LOD-based search engine of #Pelagios, which connect several partnered datasets by using #places as the common ground.

Through #Peripleo, we had access to a massive set of #numismatic resources, including #Nomisma. Textual sources were collected through #ToposText, for its focus on locations."
