Today #LinkedData and #Time, at #LinkedPasts #Pelagios

This activity brings together projects and institutions with an interest in the representation of time and the sharing of temporal data:

- To discuss and catalogue existing shared standards in both the synchronous meeting and asynchronously edited documents;
- To examine the structure of sample data contributed by participants and explore its use in some existing tools for temporal modeling;
- To develop a charter for a proposed Time Interest Group for the Pelagios Network.

To get involved, please join our Zulip chat channel: https://time.zulipchat.com/join/j2lfopwju4v26lkppohpzvkj/

Today 13:30 - 14:30 GMT: Exploring text on maps at #LinkedPasts #Pelagios

The David Rumsey Map Collection is one of the largest and most visited libraries of digital maps worldwide. Thanks to the collaboration with the Machines Reading Maps project, new experimental features are being developed to enhance the ways in which the maps are accessed, searched, investigated, and overall experienced.

While these features are not yet available to the public, this activity shares their current state, to gather feedback and to discuss possible applications or collaborations.

After a 1 hour demo, we will ask participants to pitch possible use
cases and research applications. A small number selected will be given access to the work-in-progress features of the Rumsey Collection.

Today 15:00 - 17:00 GMT: #LinkedData and international collaboration at #LinkedPasts

While #LOD is increasingly being used to enhance digital collections, its application in different #GLAM institutions is still too often bespoke and ad hoc.

This panel draws on the first-hand experience of 8 British International Research Institutes (BIRIs), as they try to connect their collections through LOD. We will hear from those engaged with mature digital practices to those who have just begun creating a digital archive.

The panel will take the format of short 5-7 minute presentations, followed by a 5 minute Q&A. The discussion will then be open for all.

The outcome of this activity will be an open document aimed at establishing basic guidelines for better linking international collections.

Today 16:00 GMT. DIY #mapping with #Peripleo at #LinkedPasts

Peripleo is an open-source browser-based tool that enables users to explore #DigitalHumanities and #CulturalHeritage data through the places those collections refer to. This demo will walk you through how you can create maps of your collections — how you can covert your spreadsheet data into #Pelagios #LinkedData standards, create a Peripleo web map, and serve this on #Github Pages.

Peripleo is a is a browser-based map tool developed by Rainer Simon from the Austrian Institute of Technology as part of the AHRC-funded Locating a National Collection project. This activity will provide instruction on how to use Locolligo to transform participants' own data to Pelagios linked data standards, create a Peripleo web map and serve this on Github Pages. To be held at 23 Nov at 4pm and/or 28 Nov at 4pm depending on interest and availability.
