Pride on trial in Hungary

Hungary is pressing criminal charges against the Mayor of Budapest for helping organise a peaceful Pride march. When peaceful assembly is punished, democracy is at risk. The EU must act to defend freedom, dignity, and equality. Add your name.

Thousands attend banned Pride march in Hungarian city Pecs

Several thousand people attended a Pride march in the Hungarian university city of Pecs on Saturday in defiance of an official ban, AFP observed.

eNCA

We also call on the @Europarl_EN, EU Member States & leaders to:
📢Publicly condemn the ban
📢Show solidarity with the organizers & community
📢Join #PécsPride to defend the right to assembly in Hungary

The EU must not stay silent as Hungary criminalizes Pride and violates human rights.

On 4 October, standing up for #PécsPride means standing up for the #RuleOfLaw, #HumanRights, dignity & equality in 🇪🇺.

On 4 October, #PécsPride🏳️‍🌈 is due to take place in #Hungary. Hungarian authorities have banned the march, exposing the organizer to prison & participants to fines & surveillance.

The EU must act now to protect human rights including the right to assembly.

The annual LGBTQI Pride March in Pécs (Hungary) is scheduled to be held on 4 October 2025. It had been banned by the police on 5 September. The ban on Pécs Pride is exposing the organizer to the threat of imprisonment, as holding a banned assembly constitutes a criminal offence under the Hungarian Criminal Code.
