Progress!

Elizabethan plaited braid stitch with some chain stitch and heavy chain stitch in places because the widths of the channels aren't ideal. There are a few early C17th examples which use chain stitch or heavy chain stitch in a similar way, so I'm OK with that here.

Aaaaand this stage is done!

I'll probably add some more speckling to a few bits at a later stage.

Made some more progress. Should have gone to bed hours ago, but did spend a long time on the phone to my brother, his partner (and my youngest nephews before they went to bed). Embroidery is a good fidget toy.

Some close up pics. I'm trying to keep my stitches small to make sure the curves are crisp. It doesn't always work as planned, mostly because the silk thread can get a bit fuzzy, but I'm liking the effect.

Finally finished all the small motifs! So many little guys.

And yep, I just noticed the one tiny leaf I've not yet done. I'll do that as I go along.

Little guys are worked in split stitch and speckling. The vines are outlined in heavy chain stitch.

Next step: outline the rest of the vines.

I copied the design from a coif in the V&A's collection, T.32.1936 (https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O251169/coif-unknown/).

Made enough progress to move my hoop. Here's a happy little guy 💜

Made a bit more progress. I'll do all the outlining for the vines later. I want to get the little dudes finished first.

Been working on the #PearAndSnailCoif again. The pace is glacial (snail's pace?), but then it does involve a lot of stabbing.

Made some more progress on the #PearAndSnailCoif

I've been chipping away at this during mine and @SunnySidesofBlue's fortnightly chat & craft and sometimes at writing group.

The linework with silk isn't as crisp as with the cotton thread I used for the #UnstitchedCoif, but I'm still pretty pleased with the effect.
