Secondo quanto riportato da 'The Guardian', Pawel Bukowski, carrellista di 48 anni, si era recato nel gennaio 2025 in una clinica privata in Turchia per sostituire i denti compromessi da una grave parodontite. L’uomo si aspettava che, dopo l’estrazione, gli venisse applicata una protesi temporanea.
Invece, gli fu comunicato che avrebbe dovuto attendere sei mesi prima di ricevere gli impianti definitivi, restando nel frattempo senza denti. Una notizia che, secondo i familiari, ha avuto un impatto devastante sul suo equilibrio emotivo.
Il crollo psicologico dopo il rientro
Durante l’inchiesta presso il tribunale del coroner di Norfolk è emerso che, una volta rientrato nel Regno Unito, Bukowski ha sviluppato gravi problemi di salute mentale. A pesare sono stati diversi fattori: la difficoltà a mangiare, il disagio estetico, i costi più alti del previsto per un intervento percepito come fallimentare e l’abuso di alcol.
La moglie, Daria Bukowska, lo ha descritto come un uomo attento alla propria salute e al proprio aspetto. La perdita dei denti, ha spiegato, “ha distrutto la sua autostima e la sua speranza”, portandolo progressivamente a isolarsi dalla famiglia.
Le richieste di aiuto e il mancato ricovero
Le condizioni psicologiche dell’uomo sono peggiorate rapidamente. Il 24 aprile è stato ricoverato all’ospedale universitario di Norfolk e Norwich, dove uno specialista ha evidenziato forti tendenze suicide.
Nonostante ciò, è stato stabilito che non necessitasse di un ricovero psichiatrico. Quattro giorni dopo, il 28 aprile 2025, Bukowski è stato trovato morto nella sua abitazione.

Instead, he was told that he would have to wait six months before receiving the permanent implants, remaining without teeth in the meantime. This news, according to his family, had a devastating impact on his emotional balance.

Psychological Collapse Upon Return
During the investigation at the Norfolk coroner’s court, it emerged that upon returning to the United Kingdom, Bukowski developed serious mental health problems. Several factors weighed in: the difficulty in eating, the aesthetic discomfort, higher-than-expected costs for a procedure perceived as a failure, and alcohol abuse.

His wife, Daria Bukowska, described him as a man concerned about his health and appearance. The loss of his teeth, she explained, “destroyed his self-esteem and his hope,” gradually leading him to isolate himself from his family.

Conclusions of the Investigation
Medical examiner Johanna Thompson classified the death as suicide. His wife reported a series of shortcomings, arguing that her husband's problems were repeatedly ignored, including the management of symptoms related to alcohol withdrawal.

“Pawel was disappointed at crucial moments,” she stated. “I hope that no other family has to live through a similar tragedy: he deserved more.”
