The zero sum game of Unionist politics is very evident when they oppose an inquiry into a murder of a solicitor in front of his family when it has already been shown that there was UK state collusion in that murder.

35 years later somebody might get justice, but only after decades of the State working against them.

I guess everyone responsible for this is dead now.

Everybody, but especially my English compatriots, should read this essay on the murder of Pat Finucane and the UK government's refusal to investigate the probable collusion of British security forces with Finucane's killers.

I don't know if Pat Finucane was a member of the IRA, but even if he was, that in no way justifies the participation of soldiers, police, or intelligence officers in an unlawful killing.

Westminster's attempt to stifle investigation into this matter should disturb all of us in the UK.
Attempting to excuse the cover up by pointing to the the IRA's tradition of omerta will not wash. Since when did we accept the IRA's questionable practices as ethical benchmarks?

The real danger lies giving what amounts to legal immunity to the organizers of the killing. That is both wrong in itself and most imprudent for any Briton of progressive tendencies; right wingers in the security establishment need to know that they will be held accountable for any unlawful acts they might be tempted to commit during a "crisis" period under a future Labour government.
