Some of us persist in pointing out that institutions are the original #PaperclipMaximizers, & that corporations are a particularly ruthless form of the type - especially under a modern #capitalist ethos.

This is not a new idea. Soviet writer Anatoly Dneprov's 1968 story "Crabs on the Island" is pretty clearly not about risk from runaway AI. It's probably not strictly about #capitalism, either, but it's certainly got captialism in its sights.

"What if the real #PaperclipMaximizers were the #Corporations we worked for along the way?"
Forget who pointed me to "#InstrumentalConvergence" the other day but I just read this summary & holy crap there are just some WILD assumptions being made to get from a somewhat interesting basic premise to 'paperclip maximizing computers will kill us all', none of which seem to have inspired anyone to ponder the ways that corporations resemble #PaperclipMaximizers.
