#WritersCoffeeClub 3.22 — How do you organise your notes? (No notes?)

I’ve been all over the place in my journey as an author. I’ve been a complete #pantser and just wrote a story. I’ve written a chapter by chapter outline. In my #WIP I’m in between. I started a document to give character background. That morphed into outlining small scenes, then adding notes about what chapter an event or character is introduced. I guess it depends on the story I’m trying to tell

"Do you write scenes out of order?"

Usually I don't. That said, it helped me 2 or 3 times to write a future scene in which details became clear so I knew where to go from where I was.

Plotting for Pantsers

Don’t kill your creativity. Pantsers hate outlines. They write freely, follow the characters, and let the story surprise. Without some structure, they get stuck halfway through or lose track of what the story is about. You don’t need a rigid plot map. You need a loose framework that gives you direction without boxing you in.One method that works is plot checkpoints, key moments you plan ahead.Just a few. You don’t need to know every scene. Just know where the story starts, where it’s going, and a

"Are you a plotter or a pantser?” It's a question writers like to ask each other. A "plotter" maps out a story before they write it; a "pantser" discovers it as they go.

I understood DEEP FRIED while I was writing it, but the end was just a scene in the distance until I got close enough to see what was really happening.

I didn't entirely understand WELL WISHES while I was making it, but that changed with time.

As Kierkegaard put it, "life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards."

Same with stories. #storytelling #pantser

Are You A Plotter Or A Pantser?

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well. Today I am talking about one of the most divisive topics in the writing community: whether or not it is better to “plot” or “pants&#8221…

I was a pantser when I wrote Stupid Machine (and My Favorite Mother In Law, and Hot Meal, and Do-Ye0n Performs a Cost-Benefit Analysis on a Career Based on Questionable Activities ). I started off with a rough, unwritten outline, then hammered out words. I let the characters lead the story, amping up the action whenever things became dull.

@jonathan I’ve got the bulk of the story outlined and basic notes written. It definitely helps me know where I want the story to go. I do give myself the flexibility to explore and meander. I used to be a #pantser but learned the value of #outlining when I was working on my previous book - The Challenges of Being Me

#Plotter vs #pantser We’re getting ready for the blowhard, pushy board Helene to show up uninvited at our house tomorrow, and I’ve been feeling a little agitated about it. So today, I wrote an unexpected tornado (yeah, because hurricanes give warning and tornadoes don’t always) into my book. #Plotters, can you do that? No, I didn’t think so…

I've passed the 12,000-word mark on my modern gothic story "The Development." Is it a novelette? A novella? Maybe even a novel? I don't know. All I know is the story is still pulling me along, so I have to keep writing. #AmWriting #Gothic #Horror #Pantser
