Dining and CookingData from human and mouse studies indicate that a high-fat diet increases the abundance of *Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron* (BT) in the gut. BT synthesizes palmitic acid in the gut, and palmitic acid promotes blood coagulation, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
