What sorts of things could you do with a C64 and a ham radio back in the day? i played with HF packet for a bit. the problem i had was that it was super hard to keep a connection long enough to do anything. it was good for keyboard to keyboard, but it was hard to connect to #PacketBBS etc.

Giovanni - ZL2GX@F4FXL @aprs I wrote an implementation of AX25 in the days of packetbbs were widely used - before websites. Now I find that #AX25 and #packetbbs aren't dead, just overshadowed. I've managed to get #direwolf running on HF via an IC-7300.
That was the easy bit. As is the way with all software, there's understanding the layers, so as well as exploring Direwolf, I need to find an #AX25 tools tutorial. Thanks for your tiny example - these really help.
Tony W6SFISpent some time with #direwolf yesterday and finally figured out how to make it transmit packets. It wasn’t a software problem at all, it was the USB-to serial cable not pushing enough voltage to actually trigger #PTT. Never forget to #debug the physical layer. Next two stops are #packetbbs and #aprs #messaging, I think, in some order or other.

TNT run fine but DPBOX need some tweaks to run
