Pres. #FWDeKlerk gave a speech #ThisDayInHistory in 1990 saying #ANC was unbanned & #NelsonMandela would be freed - a sharp turn-around for a pro-#apartheid nationalist who had served many years under #PWBotha. His reasons were pragmatic and a response to the #AntiApartheid wave.
