How often do you dive down rabbit holes?

After reflecting on recent essays, I thought it would be useful to make a single webpage with literature on echo chambers & rabbit holes.

Know of a useful paper on this topic that I should include? Let me know.

Echo Chambers, Filter Bubbles, and Rabbit Holes — Platform Journalism

Are echo chambers and filter bubbles a thing? Do social media platforms lead to echo chambers? Do echo chambers lead to political polarisation or is it the other way around? TLDR, echo chambers and filter bubbles are not really a thing. Rabbit holes are a more substantiated concept. A False Symm

How is the reporting on the current state of the pandemic? Did you know that the pandemic is still going on? Are we getting the same information?

"Journalism has a funding problem. Journalists are losing their jobs as a result. News businesses have tried various models to sustain their operations, while the Australian government has also attempted to address it through initiatives like the News Media Bargaining Code and the News Media Assistance Program.

One underexplored funding strategy for journalism is the youtuber business model. The growth of youtuber journalism indicates that this is a viable option for funding video journalism, especially long-form journalism."

for future #POL204 students:
- visit your local library! some readings won’t be accessible online through the UOW library, try checking your local library for them
- otherwise, you can inter-borrow books from other libraries through UOW
- you also might want to start looking at the readings a week ahead of time so that you can access some of them (don't stress if you can't get them tho)
- if you can go to the lectures in-person, definitely do so!

good luck, you got this!! xo
