Passion for Provenance (data): On collection data, museum systems and open collaboration via wikis - TIB-Blog

The international workshop Provenance Loves Wiki: »Provenance Research + the Wikiverse« gathered art historians, museum and collection management specialists, computer scientists, data enthusiasts, and members of the Wikidata/Wikibase community, over two days at the offices of Wikimedia Germany in January in Berlin. Our blog post provides a review from the perspective of TIB’s Open Science Lab.

And we made it just in time for #LoveDataWeek – our post reflecting on the #plw2024 workshop / barcamp at WMDE HQ in Jan is up on the TIB blog:

We had a session dedicated to #Wikibase (of course) and got valuable feedback from the community of art historians, provenance researchers, museum professionals and data enthusiasts regarding missing features and missing perspectives when considering Wikibase as a viable collection management system that is able to complete with/ replace proprietary systems.

Just in time for #LoveDataWeek, our @lozross and our @Lambo report on the @tibhannover blog about the wonderful #plw2024 event by @kuwiki, @pippich et al - which was all about passion for (provenance) data, collection management and open collaboration, @WikibaseCommunity, and our ongoing efforts around Wikibase with @nfdi4culture.

After #plw2024 I've found my #provenance rabbit hole - linking #wikidata items of people related to Achim's #loviscorinth #paintings - collectors, gallery owners ... a world of family connections! That said, you inevitably also add one Holocaust victim after another and learn more about them. Some information only exists because of #terezin #ushmm & other databases. Still hoping to find an unidentified collector so I can do my part to give a person a face – not just the "Holocaust victim" label.

me: So many things to do at work, not sure what to prioritize.
also me: Let's write a blog post for #LoveDataWeek reflecting on the #plw2024 workshop/barcamp from few weeks' back because it was really rather good.
