Last month, while looking for owl and bald eagle nests, I spotted several pellets in an area. They look like owl pellets but they could be from another bird of prey. What do you think? They mainly contain feathers, not many small bones in them.

One of the easiest ways to know if #owls are in an area is by looking for/finding their pellets. Most owl pellets you'll find will have fur/bones in them because of their natural diet.

A few feet away from the large cocoon were 2 #OwlPellets. You can see the #bones from prey that the owl ate in their #poop.

Many years ago, when I worked at Royal BC Museum, one of the weekend kid camps that I helped to run taught kids how to identify what owls ate from dissecting owl pellets. I did similar nature education with owl pellets at 2 different local nature houses in the past too.

Beginning of class, “Eww, gross!” End of class, covered in fur, “Mrs. C can we keep these bones?!” 🤣 🦉#OwlPellets

#OwlPellets never get old, especially with 4th graders who couldn’t say “gross” enough during the directions, but then whined when we had to stop! 🦉🐁 #DoScience #STEM
