Though I've occasionally seen raccoons do this, I'd never had this gait show up in tracks until I trailed one over an open landscape. Here, the canonical side-by-side of their extreme overstep walk morphs into...a lope! #trackinglife #OregonDunes #wildlifetracking
Caught this moment in the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes while stretching my legs during a drive south to Northern California. The filtered light, dramatic skies, and endless ripples in the sand were mesmerizing. I only had a few minutes—and the wind wasn’t exactly gentle—but I could’ve stayed for hours soaking it all in.

This area, north of Lake Abert off US 395, spans 11,000 acres and is a major draw for the OHV crowd. But even just walking a few yards into the dunes, it felt like another world.

All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted.
