I had only seen it in passing before, but my recent project prompted me to investigate. This post is just a little taste, since I don't know it well, but it might be a starting point for others who can think of a good use case in their own work.
Even as an experienced OpenRefine user, I didn't know much about the API. I began investigating it when I needed to repeat operations across a large set of spreadsheets. While I found an alternative that's simpler for now, I wanted to share what I learned in case it's of interest to others.

@moinluk same here for several days.. Just have Qid property to add after reconciliation with #Wikidata, ans "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try late" when i try to add other properties. Wrong day to post it, but you post to the blog on the days that work for you -- just wrote up an OpenRefine trick I learned to limit the "Blank down" to only values in each record.
It's not a problem if the data's unique, like with record IDs. But it quickly becomes an issue if you're trying to reduce visual clutter by cutting down repeating rows but the repetition is across records.
Blanking down is a great way to remove repeating rows within an OpenRefine record. But if the field's contents are the same between records, a single blank down action can wipe out rows of data you wanted to retain once in each record. You can solve this using row.record.index to add the record number to rows beforehand. This writeup contains the two transformations you'll need and a brief walkthrough on how to use them.
