Not very long ago a pilot took a (smallish) 103 m tanker through Active Pass on the Salish Sea.

This is a blind passage, including to radar. There's at least 2 ferries per hour during the normal day; in summer it can be 6 per hour. Plus commercial fishing, barges, and an excess of tourists on rental boats and other private boaters.

Apparently trying to save a half hour.

I think the #OpenSeaMap depth initiative has one fatal flaw: It expects user to remember manually and periodically upload track data from an SD card to laptop and from laptop to the https://depth.openseamap.org/ system.

Instead, the data logger (esp if using dedicated HW) should have the vessel data (and other stuff what is needed) as configs, and the upload should be buffered and when connected batched....

Onko täällä ketään joka osaisi auttaa avoimen traficomin raakakarttadatan muuttamisessa OpenCPN vektoriformaattiin?

Tarvitsisin Päijänne-Keitele vesistön merikartat. Niitä ei kai saa kaupallisesti sopivassa formaatissa mitenkään. Edes OpenSeaMap.bitmap-karttoja ei Päijänteelle saa.
