The legend says Low Taxes, Cheap Groceries, and Affordable Housing.
The pie chart has none of those colours in it.

That's the joke. That's also the truth. We love this country AND we know it's robbing us blind at the grocery store. Both things are real. 😂🇨🇦

In all those meme-charts about Canadians' use of metric vs imperial units, I don't think I've ever seen one that dissects the volume units on a pub drinks menu:

  • Pre-packaged drinks (bottles & cans) are described in millilitres (473mL tallboys vs 355mL regular cans, for example).

  • Drafts are described in fluid ounces (16oz regular draft vs 20oz pint).

  • Except, drafts of imported European beer served in branded glasses may be in mL (500mL of Stella Artois on tap).

  • For mixed drinks or shots, the amount of hard liquor is given in ounces; no one mentions the total volume (a 2oz Caesar cocktail may fill up a 16 or 20oz glass).

  • Wine glasses may be in mL or oz.

The word pint is legally only allowed to be used for full British pints (20oz), but since American pint glasses are the most common draft size in Canada, anyone serving true pints will emphasize that with an ounce measurement or "full British" description. US vs imperial ounces is within the margin of error on draft/mixed drinks.

Fire engine, lights and sirens on, roars down the road in front of our home and suddenly turns off the siren. I look outside to see which neighbour is on fire, only to see the fire engine waiting patiently for a flock of Canada geese to finish walking across the road (in the crosswalk, naturally). As soon as the last one has crossed, it's sirens and speed again.
