I gotta admit, I'm always a little surprised when I re-assemble something and it works! This "parts only/not working" Zenith TO has come back to life after a bit of service and some minor repairs. This is from my basement workshop outside of Pittsburgh with no external antenna.
Spent some time last night working on the Transoceanic 3000 again. I got the glue out of the tuning shaft using a hot soldering iron and a drill, but restringing the cord is a challenge, and the diagrams are as clear as mud.
I cannot possibly explain how much I hate doing dial cords on #OldRadios. Gonna need a new spring, also, so a trip to the hardware store is in my future.
I'm fixing up another Zenith Transoceanic. This is my second. It's another radio that was sold as "parts," but it's coming back to life. Unlike my first TO, this has the newfangled "FM band," so I can listen to my own show now!
Next step: Restring part of the dial cord; the pointer is still connected but the part that turns the tuning capacitor is broken and some knucklehead slopped glue all over it, apparently in a past attempt to fix it. Pray for me ....
