Ki oder chinesisch Ch’i – 氣 bzw. in vereinfachter Schreibung 気 – taucht als Begriff immer wieder mal in den überlieferten Texten der Karate-Pioniere auf. So verwenden ihn beispielsweise Asato Ankō (1828–1906), Itosu Ankō (1831–1915) oder auch Funakoshi Gichin (1868–1957). Allerdings ist es schwierig, diesen Begriff zu übersetzen.
