I study Muay Thai & boxing 3 nights/week. A dude dressed as a furry walked into last Wednesday's class. He participated in the entire class dressed as a furry.

The others laughed. Me, not so much.

Why?

I studied Shotokan karate in the early 1980s. All of the instructors & most of the students were cops, steel workers, and/or Vietnam vets. If a dude in full-on furry regalia walked into that dojo? Man-oh-man. Nobody would've laughed.

This is the first Karate tournament I’ve ever competed in. And as I stand there beneath the gymnasium’s bright lights, with referees barking orders, I think: this is really cool.
