UK, silver florin - two shillings - an early attempt at decimalisation. Victoria, 1849 - the so called “Godless Florin” as the legend omitted the usual D.G. - Deo Gratia, or - by the grace of god. This caused a degree of moral outrage, so the design was only issued for one year. Mintage 413,800, so scarce, especially in nice condition - this one aUnc. #numismatics #numismatic #numismatists #CoinCollectors #coincollecting #histodons
Probably my favourite coin in my collection - Akbar the Great (1542-1605), Abū al-Fatḥ Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Akbar - Mughal Emperor of India, (1556-1605), silver square rupee, one side bears the legend Allahu Akbar, the other, I’m afraid I can’t read - any Arabic speaking people, please let me know! If you walked around with a flag bearing the obverse legend these days, you would probably be arrested - so, as a historical artifact, this is incredibly significant. #India #numismatics #numismatists #numismatistsoftheworldunite #islamic #histodons
A fine coin from a fine City - Norwich, silver 1/2 penny trade token, MDCCXCIV- 1794, a fleece (the source of much of the wealth in Norfolk) on one side, Norwich castle on the other. The edge bears the legend RICHARD BACON COCKEY LANE. I have the same design struck in copper, which, I presume would have been the standard issue - the silver must have been a “special” or presentation striking. Lovely condition. #coins #numismatcs #numismatists #tradetoken #coincollecting #histodons #norwich

The last of the series (for me) in my collection of Unió Catalanista coins - the remarkably beautiful 20 pessetes - the reverse legend translates (according to my rusty Latin - any Latin scholars please update me) to “We claim (demand) the inheritance of our forefathers”. This point is made in the design, with the reverse showing the throne of St Martin, and the obverse, Sant Jordi, patron Saint of Catalunya. #ViscaCatalunyaLliure #numismatics #numismatists #histodon
A #numismatic work of art, designed, and struck, in a secret workshop in Barcelona, on behalf of the Unió Catalanista, in 1900, to be sold to raise money for #Catalan Independence. The great sculptor, Venanci Vallmitjana I Barbany (1826-1919) designed the series - this is a copper 5 centims. #coins #coincollecting #numismatics #numismatists #ViscaCatalunyaLliure
Elderly Woman's Bag Of Silver Halves May Be Worth $100K+

A canvas bag containing 2,000 silver half-dollars struck in 1963 at the Denver Mint and sewn shut there 60 years ago will bring a pretty penny for an elderly northeast Oklahoma woman who received the coins as a gift from her father a half-century ago. "This original, mint-sealed bag contains $1,000 face value of fifty-cent

2,000 Romanian Lei (1999). Peculiar for being the first European polymer banknote, and for its design which marks the total eclipse of the sun in 1999.

The Thai baht, like the pound, originated from a traditional unit of mass (baht, also known as tical). Its currency value was originally expressed as that of silver of corresponding weight (now defined as 15 grams).
