#nowreading The Learning Tree by Gordon Parks

#NowReading ‘The Secret Island’ by Enid Blyton.

My annual re-read of one of my top three books of all time.

(The timing is in no small part prompted by recent camper van adventures and me dreaming I could “run away” and live off grid)

A Cold War era post-apocalyptic English scifi novel about genetically engineered carnivorous plants that take advantage of an astronomical event which leaves most of the human population blind to swarm the world and break free from their farms. When will scientists ever learn?

Interesting that he stuck some anti-communist commentary in there while having the main characters resort to building communes for collective survival.

"'Have you seen the newspapers?' Sir Frederick asked me from across the room. I was ironing the Baron's trousers, which was proving difficult as he had them on and was pacing about." - De'Ath Takes a Holiday, Shaun Micallef

Finally finished “Imaginary Friend”, story was a bit of a slog but still an interesting horror read.

Now onto “Abandon” by Blake Crouch. I’ve read all his other books and discovered this one I missed.

Current side book I’ll continue is “Doom Guy”.
