My old plot is still mostly looking after itself. Everything’s been harvested. There’s just a little weeding and sowing of green manures to do and it’ll be all set for winter. #Gardening #NoDig #Allotment #GreenManures #NoBareSoil @allotments

@feinschmeckergarten Thank you, much appreciated.

I added a thin leaf litter layer to the beds today to finish them off for the year. Now the worms will be even happier.

The over wintering field beans and broad beans were sown today. The beds inside the fencing will be for harvesting. The other beds are for green manures or may just feed the mice or the muntjac.

The other green manures are doing well, cycling nutrients, feeding the soil biology and improving the soil and water infiltration.

We’re coming in to the start of mypex season, but not on my plot. Living roots and green manures all the way.

I’ve the last of the dried bean harvesting and a couple of other jobs to do before sowing the broad and field beans for overwintering in November.

The local wildlife has been busy hunting for worms in the beds.

January & February are going to drag.

My green manures have mostly been frost killed so I’ve marked out the beds for 2023 (75 cm wide with a 25 cm path in between). Bed lengths will vary on the plot between 5 & 8m.

Three beds are set aside for growing Yacon as a replant perennial. I’ll have another 15 beds to play around with.

Green manures were growing well into the first week of December. 10 nights of freezing temperatures (-4°C to -9°C) have knocked them back. Photographed after today’s thaw.
