Composition over mechanics.
For me, the camera is a tool for alignment, not a mechanical puzzle. I outsource the exposure to the camera so my brain can focus on the Architecture of the Frame.
This 2012 capture was the connection between a living subject and a curled, dried leaf. It’s a moment of pure Zen, tilting and shifting until the organic "noise" falls away and the hidden geometry is all that remains.
Captured in the moment.
This Western Tiger Swallowtail was a system in motion, moving from flower to flower with zero stillness. My eye locked onto the bold geometry of its wings until the pattern hit a perfect alignment.
It was only after the click that I saw the "math": the reflection of the antenna slicing right through the center of the eye. A moment of absolute structural precision in a world of constant movement.

Finding the signal in the rhythm.
My eye doesn't just see a pond; it reads the repeating horizontal planes of the lily pads. In this landscape, the "noise" of the greenery creates a rhythmic pattern that most would find chaotic.
My "Intuitive Artistry" waits for the moment of alignment, where the subject locks into the center of the system. I only realize the math of the reflection was there after the shutter clicks.
