I found out it's National Grief Awareness Week this week. I wanted to write something for it, but then I remembered a short piece I wrote back in January. I wrote it in Danish, but translated it to English. It's slightly redacted to make it less personal. Be gentle with yourselves this week and always.

This week is National Grief Awareness Week.

Grief takes many forms and follows no single timeline. Often in ways that are invisible from the outside.

If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. Support is available, and reaching out is never a burden.

At Galea, we believe everyone deserves space to understand what they’re feeling and access support in a way that feels right for them.

Mona, we miss you every second of the day. We will love you forever. We grieve because we love you so much. It doesn’t get easier, and time doesn’t heal grief.

Wrote a post about feeling not alone and vaguely normal through reading Victorian poetry through grief for #NationalGriefAwarenessWeek. Links to poems in blog: https://www.debbiechallis.com/post/poetry-and-pain-reading-the-victorians-through-grief

Poetry and Pain: Reading the Victorians through Grief

At some point, I stopped reading poetry regularly. Yet, it is the first thing I turn to in an emotional crisis and particularly in grief. Maybe I prefer abstraction to clear thought. Maybe it’s a habit. Maybe it’s not being able to read more than a few sentences. May be poetry can pinpoint the pain of grief.
