The Daily Beast Latest Articles | Mace Blasts Bondi’s Bid to Wriggle Out of Epstein Grilling by Sarah Ewall-Wice

Jim Watson/AFP via Getty ImagesFired Attorney General Pam Bondi is trying to avoid testifying under oath about her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, but Republican Rep. Nancy Mace won’t let her off the hook.

“Pam Bondi cannot escape accountability simply because she no longer holds the office of Attorney General,” Mace’s office said in a statement. “Our motion to subpoena Pam Bondi, which was passed by the Oversight Committee, was for Bondi by name, not by title.”

“She will still have to appear before the Oversight Committee for a sworn deposition,” it continued. “The American people deserve answers, and we expect her to appear as soon as a new date is set.”

Mace Blasts Bondi’s Bid to Wriggle Out of Epstein Grilling

The Justice Department said the axed AG won’t go before the House for a deposition.

yahoo news | 'Curious excuse' flagged as Bondi threatened with contempt for dodging Epstein...

A new report flagged the “curious excuse” used by ousted former Attorney General Pam Bondi to blow off a scheduled deposition over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The former attorney general, fired last month, is now using her termination as justification to skip an April 14 deposition with the House Oversight Committee investigating the government’s Epstein files. The Justice Department told the panel Bondi no longer has to appear since she was subpoenaed “in her capacity as attorney general” — a claim HuffPost called a “curious excuse,” noting that every recent former attorney general has cooperated with the same committee, even Bill Barr, who sat for a transcribed interview.

Bipartisan fury was immediate. Rep. Nancy Mace (R‑SC) minced no words: “Leaving office doesn’t mean you get to dodge accountability. Pam Bondi was subpoenaed by name, not by title, and because the DOJ stonewalled Congress and refused to follow the law, she needs to appear before the Oversight Committee and answer for it.” Mace threatened contempt proceedings if Bondi fails to show. “She promised she would comply,” added Mace. “April 14 is her chance to prove it. Chairman Comer must make one thing clear: show up or face contempt.”

Bondi’s series of Epstein‑related failures put her on the hot seat, including her claim that a “client list” was sitting on her desk—a claim her own DOJ later flatly contradicted. Her Justice Department also missed statutory deadlines to release Epstein files, admitted to improper redactions, and withheld documents.

yahoo news | Pam Bondi Won’t Appear for Scheduled Epstein Deposition After DOJ Ouster

Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will not attend the deposition scheduled for April 14 before the House Oversight Committee on the Jeffrey Epstein files. The Committee’s spokesperson confirmed that Bondi, who was subpoenaed by name rather than by title, will not appear because she was removed from the attorney‑general post last week. The office will now coordinate with Bondi’s personal counsel to discuss rescheduling the testimony.

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, a member of the Oversight Committee, stressed that Bondi cannot evade accountability simply because she no longer holds the AG position. Mace reiterated that the subpoena was directed at Bondi personally and that the committee will pursue the deposition regardless of her former title. Bondi’s last appearance before Congress was a contentious hearing in February, during which she aggressively defended her handling of the Epstein files and even launched a memorable outburst about the stock market.

Bondi’s dismissal came amid criticism over the Epstein investigation, and she was succeeded temporarily by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. President Donald Trump praised Bondi on Truth Social, calling her a “Great American Patriot” and lauding her record on crime reduction, while Bondi announced she is “thrilled” to move into a yet‑unrevealed private‑sector role. The article first appeared on Mediaite.

Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will not appear at the House Oversight Committee’s scheduled deposition on April 14 to answer questions about the Jeffrey Epstein files. The committee confirmed that Bondi, who was subpoenaed by name rather than by title, withdrew after her removal from the attorney‑general post last week. Committee spokesman told MeidasTouch’s Scott MacFarlane that the DOJ informed them of her inability to attend and that the committee will contact Bondi’s personal counsel to discuss rescheduling.

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, a member of the Oversight Committee, warned that Bondi cannot evade accountability simply because she no longer holds office. In an X post, Mace emphasized that the subpoena was issued to Bondi personally, not to the office, and that the committee intends to pursue the deposition despite the former AG’s ouster. Bondi had faced intense scrutiny for her handling of the Epstein files during her tenure and previously clashed with lawmakers in a February Capitol Hill hearing, famously exclaiming, “The Dow is over 50,000 right now!”

Bondi was dismissed from the attorney‑general position, with her deputy Todd Blanche assuming the role in an acting capacity. President Donald Trump praised her on Truth Social, calling her a “Great American Patriot” and lauding a “massive crackdown in crime.” Bondi later said she is “thrilled” about an undisclosed private‑sector job she will be transitioning to. The story continues to develop.
