I enjoy watching #NHK streaming occasionally, where they play various programs on #Japanese culture.
Just watched most of a piece on the #namahage tradition: scary costumed people (a bit like mummers?) that go house-to-house in the north making scary sounds in primitive costumes terrorizing the children, and getting fed by the parents on new year's eve. Entertaining.
They really scare the hell out of the kids though, holy crap–must be PTSD inducing, trying to put them into sacks and stuff. lol
