Wildfires in the N.W.T have emitted 97 megatonnes of carbon into the air so far this year according to the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service. That's 277 times more than what was caused by humans in the territory back in 2021.

Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸Fun fact for folks who might not be familiar with Canadian political structures (some Canadians might not know this either!): The Territories, including Yukon, NWT, and Iqaluit have non-partisan legislatures, ie. members are traditionally independent, not affiliated with any party, much like municipal politics in Canada.
The Northwest Territories are due to have an election this fall but it looks like the election might get postponed as the majority of the population is evacuated from their places of residence. Also, I believe the Premier of the Territory is voted by and from the MLAs that are elected.
