It sounds less like “a batch of songs” and more like

The response appeared to be a standard form response - they have been asked this before.
I understand the knee-jerk resistance to #NMH solutions, but #OpenPGP is a well-known standard which they could easily re-implement.
Which leaves me assuming they have another reason. Probably that they would not be involved in making, or storing, the private keys.
Which leaves me more paranoid than I already was.
