nyckithe "chinese room" in Caine's joke is a famous thought experiment about artificial intelligence. the person inside the room is answering questions in a language they don't know, using a library of phrasebooks to brute force their way to a "likely response." the question is that if the person doesn't know what they're saying, and the books are just books, then is anyone in this situation "intelligent"?
I choose to believe that Caine knows damn well what this is a reference to, and he has a sense of humor about being an AI. Or it makes him really uncomfortable, and that's why he has to joke about it.
