NGC 300 - Sculptor Pinwheel Galaxy - LHaRGB v2

Difficult processing with these data: separating stars and galaxy with StarXTerminator doesn't work well here, too many artefacts. So all the stretching was done with the starfull images, with just a bit of st...

Over the past few nights we've been shooting #C70 aka #NGC300. This spiral #Galaxy in #Sculptor used to be classed as part of the Sculptor Group, but recent research places is much closer to us, and independent of that group.

It is a rather pretty galaxy, particularly as it is almost face-on to us, giving a lovely view of the arms.

This was shot over two nights, 6:30hrs of usable data, at gain 60, with the basic 'astro' filter, using a #Dwarf3 .

APOD: 2024 December 2 – NGC 300: A Galaxy of Stars

A different astronomy and space science related image is featured each day, along with a brief explanation.

#NGC300
(I actually pointed to the wrong one, it was supposed to be M83 😅)

After departing the Gravity Discovery Centre, we went back the Gingin Roadhouse, where we had a motel room booked. Just across the road is a small layover area, so we took the car across with our DwarfII telescopes, and played the "how long can we shoot before the clouds roll in" game.

Why did we take the car all over 50 metres down the road? So that we'd have somewhere warm to sit while the telescopes did their thing.

I shot two targets - NGC300 aka Caldwell 70 or the Sculptor Pinwheel Galaxy and NGC55 (Caldwell 72) or the String of Pearls Galaxy.

I only managed 180ish frames before the clouds rolled over us, but I am very happy with both results.

I also put the Theta on the roof of the car...
